LibreOffice problem with Excel .xlsx files

I have a problem with LibreOffice Calc (v3.6.1.2) for Windows which seems to have been introduced with the current version because using v3.4 this didn't happen.

Users create a "Timesheet" with staff names in Col A, then entries like "8-6" in Col B onwards to note the hours worked (ie 8-6 means the member of staff worked from 8am to 6pm) which HR then process for the payroll.

With LibreOffice 3.4, that was fine.  Now, anywhere that 8-6 appeared, we now have numbers like 41098.  Attached are two XLXS files as examples: 8-6 shows fine in the first, I just created it in Excel 2010, then I opened it in LibreOffice 3.6 and it appeared as 41098.  Save the file (without making changes) then re-open in Excel and it stays as 41098.  The cell format stays as 'Text' throughout.

The only change from the defaults that I made in LibreOffice was for it to default to XLSX rather than ODS files, but as this was a file opened as an XLSX anyway it would've resaved in that format regardless of the default for new files.

Any ideas what is going on?

I rolled back to a 3.5 release and the problem went away (except for the files that had already been edited in 3.6.1.2)
