However, we have discovered that when both Outlook and Word Perfect 11 are running, no print jobs will be completed until the users close Outlook. Is there any solution that would take care of this problem, or is it just a problem to live with?

Also suggest they check the version of Wordperfect.
Is it the regular OEM, or the Productivity Pack? Where this question is going is that there are several SP1 files available, and you need to have the correct one before you can install it. These updates are available from Wordperfect not Dell.
If printing is a six step process
1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 -> 5-> 6
Then Wordperfect's own print queue management optimises part of that process
1 -> 2 -> 3 -------> 5-> 6
But the Dell printer driver may have its own optimisations
1 -> 2 -------> 4 -> 5-> 6
And as clearly the two shortcuts won't work together, WP gives control of the printer to Outlook (which has some snazzy filofax forms handling features) so it may turn out to be one of those things you have to live with.
Don't PAQ as I have not validated the solution

Atheist,
First, thank you for your patience. I finally talked to our IT person this morning and he said after a little checking that it didn't look like the startup was an issue. We're having this problem on both XP and Win 98 computers and the one Win 98 computer has only Norton in startup, and he wasn't ready to uncheck that! So, I don't think he checked it much further for this issue.
I found something on the WP/corel site about setting the priority for background services for XP computers and made that change (in My Computer/Advanced tab/Performance/Settings/A
Next, I downloaded both files you listed in your previous comment, but when I tried to run the service pack install on one of the new Dell (XP) we just received last month, I received the message "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer Service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may upgrade a different version of the program." I tried installing both files and got the same message both times, but wasn't sure what the HP1 file was for (I tried to connect to that web page but it kept telling me the page not available).
If this is a version issue, is there a way to determine which version we have (OEM or productivity pack) when no one seems to know where the CDs that came with the computer have been filed? Under Help/About, it says version 11.0.0.233 and serial # ends in PRK.
Unfortunatly the Corell patches are version specific, and it can be tricky finding the patches to the OEM Dell version on the Corel site. You will have little luck chasing Dell so I would recommend going to Corel for support. In my experience it can take months to get a solution from them - but they did give me a free copy

If XP run MSConfig and uncheck half startup items, restart and test, checking or unchecking startup items till isolated.
I suspect the cause is a helper app for the printer. Find out what you're printer emulates and use the add printer wizard to add the most feature rich emulation for which there is a generic Microsoft driver and make this the default.
