Browse All TopicsThis is something me and my MD have been discussing and cannot get a clear answer on, but I am sure this place can help.
We are upgrading our versions of Sage (Sage 2009) and Act (Act V14 I beleive), and in a nutshell the 2 servers we have wont run them due to the Sage and Act versions, the SQL Server version and the Windows Server Versions not being all compatible with each other.
The way we have been discussing it is to get another standard PC Tower with windows XP but no version of SQL Server in the understanding that when installed, both ACT and Sage will check the server/pc it is being installed on for an instance of SQL Server and if nothing is found it will self install MySQL (or SQL Lite as some people call it)
What we have been told is you cannot have 2 instances of MySQL running alongside each other - this is the real bit we want to check.
If we install our new versions of ACT and Sage onto a stand alone PC tower (of course seen on the network), will they run alongside each other using MySQL, whether this is with both peices of software using the same instance of MySQL or both using seperate instances.
(I know we have lots of options to upgrade our versions of SQL Server and/or Windows Server but we are looking for the most cost effective way of doing things)
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I don't know about Sage accounting products, but ACT! 2010 (v12.0) uses MS SQL 2005 (not MySQL). If you have licenses, for SQL Standard, ACT! Premium can also use that.
