Embed an object via merge.  Even possible?

Hi folks,

We have a slightly odd situation.  We need to embed a PDF file as an object in Word...that's easy.

We have several hundred PDFs and want to create a merge that automatically places them.  The datasource contains the filename.

Is this even possible?  If not in Word, can ANY application do it?
