Question

How do I fix Project Web Acess (PWA) site: Access Denied error to any AD Domain Account.

Asked by: itxtech

When trying to access Project Web Access (PWA) site https:, receiving Access Denied message.  This also occurs when trying to login with any domain or local admin account.  Receiving Application Event log error Event ID:6058  Source:  Office Share Point Server  Failed to get language information for Project Server

There are no Security errors or other Event Log errors.  It appears that the accounts are successfully authenticating in the Security logs but we still receive the Access Denied message and the above listed application error when trying to access the PWA site .

Just to verify, can you check which user accounts are currently running one/all of the following...

Administative Tools > Services > Microsoft Office Project Server Events Service
Administative Tools > Services > Microsoft Office Project Server Queue Services

Also, are you able to access the Central Administration site? If so, click Application Management > SharePoint Site Management: Site Collection Administrators

Change the Site Collection to your PWA site collection, and then add one of the users you want to login to it with.

I checked to see what user account is running the Microsoft Office Project Server Events Service and Queue Services.  Once checked, is there something I should be doing with that account?  Also, I can access the Central Admin site and I changed the Site Collection to the PWA site and added an AD domain user account and I still can't login.  What are some other things I can check or look into?

Did you realize that Project Server implements it's own security model?

The site collection administrator that setup the PWA site gets initial access to the PWA site.  You then have to setup PWA roles, members et cetera as well as give users access to the PWA site itself via Sharepoint.

Thank you for that information.  I am aware of that information but even the administrator account can't access the PWA site.  Permissions were setup for individual groups of people who were successfully accessing the PWA site and all of the sudden no one can get into PWA; not even the site collection administrator.  The accounts appear to be authenticating as there are no Security log errors, but we still get an access denied message.  Note: We can access the individual workspaces that were created directly but the issue is with direct access to the PWA site.  Is there anything else we should try or an option for us to proceed?

Hmm, I didn't realize it was working and then began to fail.  When you setup the PWA site a designated Primary Administrator is assigned.  Have you tried to access it using that account?

I have the same issue today... was there a solution for this?

Can we rewind to the first comment and just clearly verify if you added the service account and/or your domain logon to the site collection administrators group for the PWA site collection?

Central Administration > Application Management > SharePoint Site Management: Site Collection Administrators

Having said that, do you see any errors under the Windows event viewer > Application Log that occur immediately after you attempt to login to the PWA site?

We had to reinstall the server.  No of the solutions provided fixed our issue.

We fixed this on our ownwith a reinstallation.  Strange issue but none of the provided solutions worked.
