Hi can anyone tell me how to add holiday dates to resources in microsoft project please.

You must customize the "standard" project calendar. The menu command is in the Tools menu but its name depends on the version of MS Project (it's obvious in all cases).
For example, in Project 2007, you can add "exceptions" to the standard calendar in the "Change working time" dialog box (see http://zo-d.com/blog/archives/project-2007/ms-project-2007-changing-working-time.html for details).
