Dbase118 - I'm doing that already. What I want to do is make that format the default so I don't have to format a bar every time I add one to the gannt chart.

Browse All TopicsHello - I'm looking for a way to set the default bar format in MS Project. In order to display the "start" to the left of the bar and the "name" to the right of the bar, I have to select each bar or a group of bars and apply the formatting mentioned above. As I enter a new task, I have to format again as the new task has no additional formatting. Is there a way to make that bar formatting (Using "start" and "name" in their respective locations) the default?
TIA,

Logicraft,
The method I describe should work as you want. There are two entries in the format menu on for BAR and then further down one for BAR STYLES. Usually using Format to BAR is for one task. Format to BAR Styles should be for all.
Attaching screen shot of the dialog box. Is this the one you see when you format?

On the Format menu, click Bar Styles.
You can also double-click within the chart portion of a Gantt view, but not on individual bars.
In the table, click the type of Gantt bar that you want to add text to, and then click the Text tab.
In the Left, Right, Top, Bottom, and Inside boxes, type or select the field that contains the data you want to display on the Gantt bar.
