Question
need low-cost assignment tracking app
I need a low-cost assignment tracking tool for an office with about 50 staff divided into 6 work units. It should track who gave the assignment, when it is due, allow multiple people to be assigned to it, what & where the product produced is located (or attached to the task) with the usual reports: overdue assignments by unit or individual, etc. I don't need: resource tracking, time management, contact db, gantt/perp charting or the other features of a full project mgmt app or personal contact mgr. These are for tracking relatively simple tasks (i.e. write a letter to...).
Any suggestions? I've seen Orbisoft's product but at $350/head it's a bit pricey. Web or LAN based is OK.

Did you try 'NetOffice'? I found it quite usefull, but I don't know your detailed needs. You can also try to search for 'netoffice' word. I found some low cost solutions. Maybe one will suit your needs better that the free version.
The opensource netoffice is undergoing changes right now, I was able to download quite old version, still OK though. Here are links:
