Adobe Reader 9.0 "an internal error has occured"

I am receiving an error when trying to launch Adobe Reader or open a .pdf file. The error says in its own little window "An Internal error has occurred". I have tried uninstall and reinstall with no luck. The current version i have installed is Version 9.  The computer is not part of a domain however the regular user has only "user" permissions.  I have tired adding the user to the "power users" group but this did not solve the issue.  Only after adding the users to the "administrators" group did Reader open without errors.  The box is XP Pro SP3.  Apparently there is some sort of permissions issue.  I have setup Reader 9 on other boxes but they all have SP2 so I am guessing that the SP3 is the issue.  Anyone know a work around or have this same experience?

Open Adobe, click Edit, Preferences, Internet
Check or uncheck Display PDF in browser and try it again
Other solution that i saw

"It also sounds like you may have a software restriction policy on your domain.  This would explain why you can run it when you aren't a part of the domain.  If there is such a policy, you would have to allow that application to execute.
Here is some general information that may help:

ASKER

1) Cannot open Adobe Reader, it gets error then crashes
2) this computer is not part of domain.  Stand-alone XP Pro install.
Adobe - An internal error has occurred

"The corruption was casued by changing the users to mandatory profiles, and then changing them back.
By deleting and re-creating their ntuser.dat and ntuser.dat.log files the issue was resolved"
I tried the ntuser.dat resolution but that did not work. Still getting error. Unfortunately I am resulting to uninstalling SP3 since that seems to be the only difference between computers where Reader is working. I post results.
PlazaProp:--Perhaps I am too late, but I would rather uninstall and reinstall Adobe Reader 9.
I already uninstalled Adobe Reader 9 and reinstalled.  I even removed the folder from program files and removed all registry entries  that looked like Reader 9 entries, before reinstalling.

PlazaProp--Thanks for the details.  Sounds like a lot of work, but it will be helpful to others.
P.S.  Did you ever consider Foxit Reader?

Perhaps something to consider in the future.
Yes it have but we have a form that needs Adobe, foxit won't open it correctly.  Maybe a new version of Foxit but i don't think the free version is available anymore.
Here's some additional info.  I have seen the problem when trying to open a PDF attachment in Outlook.  Note if Adobe Reader XI is already open the problem does not occur.  It appears to be an issue with Outlook actually opening Adobe.
