Can values be appended to the end of an existing line in a csv or text file?

I would like to write a macro that would take values from Excel and append them to the end of an existing line of a text or csv file.  Is this possible, or do you always append a text file with a new line?

Example:

CSV File
a    b    c    d
e    f    g     h

Values from Excel to append to end of the first line of the csv file.
1    2

Appended CSV File
a    b    c    d    1     2
e    f    g     h
