Getting xxx.xls is reserved by John Doe for Excel file.

I have this same problem, and tried all the solution steps to no avail.... maybe like 15016164 above.

The Excel file says it reserved by another user who is not present and not using it, so one needs to enter the password again.  I checked that there is not another instance of Excel, and cleared the temp files, rebooted the computer, etc..  I even saved it under another name and have the same problem, also when copied to another machine.

Hmm, I just noticed something else, Excel displays "[Group"] after the title.  I see nothing in Excel help about this group feature (no surprise!), but will try to investigate that.
