Excel sort order in Pivot Table

Hi all.
I am having a little problem with my Pivot Table that I have not run into before.

I am using a Date field for my row label and am trying to sort the table by this date. No matter how I attempt to fix it it continues to treat it like a number...see below:

9/1/2007       2,079.79
9/10/2007       5,193.66
9/11/2007       1,420.23
9/12/2007       1,669.03
9/13/2007       1,737.53
9/15/2007       19,374.11
9/16/2007       2,001.05
9/17/2007       878.00
9/18/2007       9,376.33
9/19/2007       1,405.00
9/2/2007       2,023.00
9/20/2007       616.00

The worksheet that contains the date data is formatted correctly. It is strange too that I am using another field for the pivot that is derived from the same date field but in this format "m\yyyy" and those are not in the correct order either. Any suggestions? TIA
