Cannot import Excel into Access

Asked by soloyolk in Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software, Microsoft Access Database, Access Architecture/Design

I'm trying to import a large Excel into Access via their import wizard, but it fails to import.  The file has 572 rows, and columns to EO.  I've done a clean of the data to make sure there's no characters or extra spacing.  Some of the fields have a paragraph of information (over 255 chars).

I've tried importing column by column but after the 1st 2 successful column imports it says that "Microsoft Office Access was unable to append all the data to the table." and says that 571 records (which is all I have) were lost due to key violations.

I've also tried stripping the Excel down and just importing a few rows at a time but that also fails.  In this case, I imported the stripped down version, checked the field types, deleted the Access rows of data (except for the column headers), and then tried to re-import the same stripped down version, but this didn't work.

I know that some of my excel fields I'm trying to import have more that 255 chars so I made some of my fields as Memo.  But since I'm running into issues just importing the rest, I've taken these out of my excel for now too with still no luck.

Any help would be much appreciated!Start Free Trial
