The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

SUMPRODUCT: Creating set formulas that work with ever changing ranges of data

Asked by keithkurze in Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software

Tags: , ,

I've created a series of SUMPRODUCT formulas to help calculate various totals from a database dump.  Every week I copy/paste my current database values into my input worksheet and then click on my SUMPRODUCT worksheet to view the calculated totals.

Every week my database dump contains a large variance in the number of rows of data returned.  Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to define my SUMPRODUCT formulas to only check in rows where data exists.  For now, I've set my SUMPRODUCT formulas to check from rows 9 through rows 8620 (an arbitrary large number).  An example is below:

=SUMPRODUCT(--('INPUT_DATA'!O9:O8620>=Reporting_Week_Start_Date),--('INPUT_DATA'!O9:O8620<=Reporting_Week_End_Date)

I have about 250 SUMPRODUCT formulas in my spreadsheet, and my excel file is starting to run a little slow, probably because each formula is reviewing a much larger data range then necessary when calculating its value.  Today, I have approximately 2500 rows of data, but I'd like my SUMPRODUCT formulas to work correctly as the number of rows of data in my database continues to grow.

Can anyone provide a suggestion on how I can create SUMPRODUCT formulas that automatically increase their data ranges to search within all rows of cells where data actually exists?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!Start Free Trial
