The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Cutting and Pasting over Referenced Cells

Asked by RealSilicaGel in Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software

Tags: , ,

Hi, I'm hoping there is a solution for this particular problem.
I have a really fancy/complex excel spreadsheet that I've built to automate several different tasks for the manufactuing company I work at.
The file is working well, and doing everything it should, but I have one small problem with regards to cutting and pasting.

I'll state the question in a simplified manner, and expand on it if asked:
Basically I have a cell that refereneces another cell using vlookup and an if statement.  Cell formula is:

=IF($F108>"",VLOOKUP($F108,Workorders!$1:$1800,19,FALSE),"")

That's from line 108.  This goes pretty much all the way up to line 1 and down to 200.  The referenced Cell (F) is a user entered cell containing a workorder number.  This spreadsheet is used to plan production on assembly lines.  So the 'user' will often cut and paste values from one or more cells in column F, and move them up or down (to a different assembly line).

If the user copies/pastes, then deletes the original cell, it all works fine.  But if she cuts/pastes the value, it breaks the above formula (#REF!).

The two-workarounds I have come up with, is one to use copy/paste then delete rather than cut/paste, or to hardcode the forumlas into a macro, and repopulate all the cells with the 'correct' formulae.  (I don't like the idea of doing this, as it will be time consuming and could cause other problems.)

Please let me know if there is a way to 'lock' a cell or something, so that pasting over a cell just changes the value being referenced.
