The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Multiple users editing Excel spreadsheet and "excel file is corrupt" error seems to appear every few weeks...

Asked by Swamp_Thing in Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software, Spreadsheet Software

There is an Excel spreadsheet located in a shared folder on my work's network.  The spreadsheet is used to record the hours that multiple engineers work on.  The first worksheet is called "Summary" and lists all the project names with how many hours total the engineers have been working on them.  Every worksheet after that is labeled with the engineer's name and their individual hours works on certain projects.

Each engineer will open this excel file periodically and record the number of hours that they have worked by editing their own workbook.  About 2 weeks ago I got a call that "the project hours spreadsheet is corrupt" and sure enough it was.  I ended up having to restore the file from one of our backup tapes and just now I got another call saying that the spreadsheet is corrupt again...

I didn't create the file and I honestly think that this could be done in a cleaner way but that has yet to be discussed...  Can anyone think of a better way to do this?  I don't like to use Excel for big things like this but I know it can handle it.  The only thing that I could think of was to maybe have each user have their own spreadsheet where they record their hours (seperate files).  Then, a "Summary" worksheet is kept (a seperate file also) and is setup to grab data from each user's spreadsheet.  What do you think?Start Free Trial
