The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Need help sorting a colum with a "semi" random alphanumeric value.

I have a spreadsheet with several columns of data.
I need to sort this sheet on a column that contains a "semi" random alphanumeric value.
Each of the values represents the ID number of an individual circuit of a piece of network equipment.
The full sheet has a column with the name of the piece of equipment that excel has no problem sorting.
The sheet first is sorted on the equipment name and then on the circuit ID.
As you can see from the sample of values below, excel does a pretty good job with the sort of the circuit ID.
But in cases where there is a range of 1 to >200, sometimes the numbers with only 1 or 2 digits are padded with a leading 0 and sometimes they aren't.
In other words sometimes it's AAA1 - AAA200 and sometimes it's AAA001 - AAA200.

If you consider the _ character as a column delimiter, the only issue would be with the first 2 columns. The rest of the value sorts correctly.
Notice that in some values there are 5 "columns" and in some there are 6.

The ultimate goal is to sort the sheet first on the "equipment name" column (A) and then on the "circuit ID" column (B).
