The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Cascading Unique Drop down lists

Asked by sp70 in Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software

Tags: , ,

Hello,
Pardon the lack of proper verbiage in my description of this problem.
I am attempting to have a cascading set of drop down lists, one of which contains Unique values.  I have briefly looked here:

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Office_Productivity/Office_Suites/MS_Office/Excel/Q_21470207.html

(which I played around with) but I'm struggling with it, and not sure if this will yield the results I need.  I will have a total of 3 drop downs.

Drop Down 1 is a short list.
Drop Down 2 is a list that has many repeating values, but I need for this list to be UNIQUE, based on the selection of Drop Down 1.
Drop Down 3 is a list that does not have repeating values, but is based on the choice of Drop Down 2. I want Drop Down 3 to be limited to a select few instead of the entire list.
ADDITIONALLY, I need for Drop Down 3 to hide previously used items in the list.  So if I have Drop Down 3 in Cell D5 and D6, and I pick 'Scott' for D5, 'Scott' will not be an item available in D6.

I've gotten Drop Down 1 to work correctly.
I've gotten Drop Down 2 to work displaying the complete list, but the drop down is currently NOT Unique.
I've gotten Drop Down 3 to work displaying the complete list, but drop down 3 is currently NOT limited to the appropriate few based on the choice from Drop Down 2.
I have not got the 'hiding' feature working on Drop Down 3.

Like the other person in the other post regarding unique drop down lists,  I want to do this without creating another "list/range" somewhere that spits out the unique values and then is used as the input for the validation.

I've attached an example spreadsheet for your review.  The lists are on the tab "ValidationLists" and the drop downs in question are on the "ValidationSample" tab.

Thank you in advance.  This is a rather time sensitive matter.
