The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Microsoft office word hanging up and freezing probably normal.dotm issues

Asked by GroundskeeperIt in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Office Suite, Active Directory

One of our execs is having problems opening particular word files. Word 07 will hang and then we have to task mgr out of it. when checking logs i notice the following error:
Hanging application WINWORD.EXE, version 12.0.6211.1000, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
I looked this up and got a few sites that said it could be a corrupt normal.dotm file. I deleted it and then tried again, same problem. I opened word up in safe mode and tried again, it worked a couple times then went right back to freezing up. I also found a doc stating to re-image the computer but i don't want to go that far with all the software installed on this machine. Is there anything that can be done to troubleshoot this? ug.
I also see the following error in the even logs after the applicantion hangs up.
EventType officelifeboathang, P1 winword.exe, P2 12.0.6211.1000, P3 ntdll.dll, P4 5.1.2600.5512, P5 NIL, P6 NIL, P7 NIL, P8 NIL, P9 NIL, P10 NIL.
