The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Microsoft Word 2003 keeps crashing

Asked by coloradocroat in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Office Suite

I have developed a new problem with my laptop that Word will continually crash.  I thought there was a problem with an old trial of 2007 that I installed and then deleted.  I was having problems with all the new updates.  I finally deleted Office 2003 using the Windows Installer Cleanup tool.  I also used PC Tools Registry cleaner to then clean the registry of anything with Office, and then reloaded the software.  Good news is that all my updates now work!  Bad news is Word still crashes.

Interesting but Word doesn't even have to be open for it to crash.  Sometimes just Outlook (I use Word as my editor in Outlook) being open will get the pop up "Microsoft Office Word ahs encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."  I can send the error report or not and I can have Microsoft try to recover my work.

In the error signature I get the following:
AppName: winword.exe         AppVer: 11.0.8307.0   AppStamp: 49ee835a
ModName: winword.exe         ModVer: 11.0.8307.0   ModStamp: 49ee835a
fDebug: 0    Offset: 00074d31

All updates have been applied, virus scan run etc.  Laptop is running XP Pro   Ran out of ideas!

Thanks,
