Adobe, InDesign, CS3, opening CS2 in CS3 issues (without using inx files)
Tags: Adobe, InDesign, CS3, opening CS2 in CS3 issues (without using inx files)
I will be converting fifty B2B publications from InDesign CS2 to CS3. My colleagues and I want to be aware of general issues associated with this conversion not using inx files. We feel creating inx files for 50 books would be very time consuming (and there are issues here too). Thoughts?

You don't need to create the interexchange file in order to open CS2 documents in CS3.  All you have to do is open CS3 open  your document.  You'll see converted on the top next to the filename and save it as a CS3 document.  The only reason you would need to create an interexchange file is if you were going backwards from CS3 to CS2.

Yes the above is correct.. Please lower version of files always open in higher version of program. But mostly fails when one open higher version of file in lower version of program.. So you can easily open CS, CS2 file in CS3.. but when you want to open CS3 file to CS2 you need to save CS3 file as interchange format so it can open in cS2 and Cs format..

I agree with the above comments. I doubt you will have many problems. I've even had InDesign CS files from a PC that were opened in CS3 on a MAC without a problem (other than having to switch font names in the process)

You really don't need to convert to inx or any other format. You can easily open CS2 files in CS3.. While converting you may loss minor changes in font kerning if you used some plugin in CS2. otherwise it work normal.
