For the past three years I've developed the newsletters in InDesign, PDF'd the file and then created an InDesign file with the PDFs in printer spread. That seems to be what they most prefer. The printed newsletters are grayscale. I also have to create a version in color for posting on the web - low resolution. For efficiency's sake, I would like to be able to create one version - high resolution color. It's easy to then reduce the resolution in Acrobat for web posting. But I need high-res grayscale, preferably in printer spread, for print. It seems incredible that Print Booklet wouldn't retain the high resolution, but it doesn't appear that it does. The PDF'd press quality file is 40 mg. When I use Print Booklet with conversion to grayscale, it ends up as a 3 mg file - which I'm sure equates to low res (more like 72 dpi than 300 dpi).

what is the output after you drop the colors?
You should also know that the printer would prefer you send them the InDesign package rather than a PDF. Also, when sending to a printer, your resolution doesn't need to be any higher than 300dpi.
