Question

Problem with Adobe InDesign CS4

Asked by: M-BOX

Hi Everyone,

I am having a problem with InDesign. (we are using Vista 64-bit and Adobe CS4).
I log in as a user and the "pages window" works fine, if I open a 50 page project the scroll bars and everything on the "pages window" is fine.

However over time, say about 2 weeks, the scroll bars on the "pages window" seem to disappear for no apparent reason meaning the user now has to use arrow keys to navigate through the pages window, which can be very inconvenient for a project with many pages.

The only solution I seem to have for this is to delete the users roaming profile from the computer and then restart the machine, log the user back on to create a new profile and then the scroll bars reappear !?

Does anyone know if a patch is required to solve this as the patch available on Adobe website does not seem to work for Vista 64-bit. Or maybe another solution if anyone has come across this before.

Thanks and regards,

It almost sounds like something quirky is happening.  First I would download CCLEANER and run that to get rid of temp files. Then I would go to Localsettings/application data/adobe/indesign6 and see if there are temp files laying around and accumulating.  We've had problems with Indesign CS3 getting "messy" and causing all sorts of odd phenoms.

Thanks Grimzbane,
However I doubt this is the issue as I have completely imaged that machine twice to try and fix the issue, didnt change a thing.
The only way to fix it was to delete the user roaming profile from the server and also local profile and then re-login to load up a clean profile. Problem was fixed after this was carried out, but eventually the problem comes back again. It seems to be some sort of profile issue with Vista.

it is strange because it happens with that one user profile, but if you then log in as a different user all the menus are back to normal ?

I've encountered this problem also. The preference file for InDesign needs to be deleted. To do this, hold down shift + ctrl + alt while starting up InDesign. This will bring up a window asking if you want to delete the preference file. Select yes. When InDesign finishes starting up the pages window and scrollbars should be there.
