Why can't I open a PageMaker 6.5 document into InDesign CS2?

In the past I was able to open a pre-existing PageMaker 6.5 document into InDesign CS2, now I am getting a message that says "The PageMaker document is damaged and cannot be recovered." I tried creating a new PageMaker document before attempting to covert it into InDesign and got the same message. We have recently upgraded our operating system to Vista and had to reinstalled all software. I don't know if there is any correlation but does anyone have any other ideas for why this is happening?

Both products may not be compatible with Vista and it could be producing files that have just enough garbage in them that the import fails. AFAIK only CS4 stuff was designed to run under Vista.

I had a user at my workplace that was receiving the same error you have...ony she has XP installed. In order to fix her issue, I had to install PageMaker 6.5 onto her machine. Once I did that she was able to open the file. Becuase you have Vista, take a look here and see if this solution will help you:
