Have you tried to go into folder options and set a "new" file extension and associate it with InDesign?
Also, have you tried right clicking on the file you want to open and do a Open With... and select InDisign.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI recently upgraded my graphic designer's computer from Adobe's CS2 Design Standard to CS4 Design Extended, and Windows now tries to open .INDD files with Photoshop.
I've tried going into Folder Options > Files Types and changing it in there, but when I browse to InDesign, it doesn't actually retain the selection. I also tried poking around InDesign itself to see if there was a way to set it as the default program with no luck.
Any ideas on how to remedy this? Thanks for the help all!

I haven't tried creating a new extension... I'll have to try that tomorrow. I have however tried doing the Open With option- when I select InDesign from the "Browse" option (it doesn't show up in the prelisted applications, though photoshop and illustrator do), I hit "open" and it just goes back to having Photoshop selected.

If you check a file saved with CS2 (to be opened with CS4) does it tell you it is supposed to open with Adobe Design or InDesign?
Right-click on the file
Properties
General Tab
It will say Opens With <program name=""> [Program Name] and then a button to Change applications.
If it's the wrong app, hit Change and make it the right one.
If it's the right app, change it to something else, save out, and then go in and change it back.
Let us know how it goes.
