Our marketing department is convinced that they can only use MACs to do their work even though they mainly use Adobe products that have Windows counterparts.
I've recently learned that they are backing up their work to local, external hard drives rather than the Windows 2003 File Server. The file server is obviously backed up on a nightly basis and their external hard drives are not backed up - they are actually there as the backup (bad idea).
I'm told that this is a necessity as there seems to be an issue with MAC naming formats and NTFS drives and there is also an issue with loosing the formatting within the files themselves. Apparently we would need to purchase a MAC server in order to hold data created by MACs to avoid the issues mentioned. That would be a MAC server to hold data for two (two for crying out loud) MACs.
I'm not buying into this and I'd like to know, from an MAC\Windows expert, if the issues mentioned are true and if so, if there are workarounds or third party software that will allow MAC users to safely save their files to a Windows server. I know very little when it comes to MACs, any advise on this would be appreciated (thanks).
