Quark 6.52 crashes when opening files

After updating to Windows XP Service Pack 3 we are having issues opening quark files.  The file crashes and I found the below information in the error.log file in the quark program dir.  We are running Quark 6.52

QuarkXPress.exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION(Invalid Read) in module
GDI32.dll
at 001B:77F24876<SymGetSymFromAddr failed with 487>
