AutoCAD or ArchiCAD components to plug in from website?

Asked by lherrou in CAD & Architecture Software, Miscellaneous Web Development, ArchiCAD Software

Greetings,

I have a client who produces some unique building construction materials. We are building a new website for him, and he's interested in something we haven't done before. He'd like to provide architectural drawings or CAD elements of his materials on the website in a format that architects could easily download and import while designing, so that his materials can easily be incorporated into the design. I'd say his materials are more decorative than structural for the most part, although some of them may serve as both.

Does anyone have knowledge of:
1) Has this been done and is it a common practice?
2) If so, is there any special steps to prepare them for the web, etc?
3) What format should these elements be in?

Thanks,
