Question

Import layout to sheet set stopped working

Asked by: norrin_radd

I have a user running Autocad 2008. Out of the blue he cant import a layout into a sheetset anymore. Either by using the sheet set manager or by right clicking a layout tab. It just hangs until he escapes out. We have identical systems sharing palettes and menus off the server. I have no problems.

This may sound crazy but it seems to me almost like the dialog is up but just hidden somewhere. But all the other dialogs come up and there is nothing on the command line.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Is it the "Import Layouts as Sheets"" dialog you think might be hidden?  If this or most any other dialog is hidden off screen (happens if you run dual moitors then go to a single monitor quite often) you can get it back be performing the following....

1) Press the ALT key and release
2) Press the down arrow key twice
3) Press Enter

You should see a double arrow cursor located to the size of the screen where the dialog is sitting off to. You can then use the arrow keys to bring it back.

You can also dig through the registry and change it's dispaly coordinates that way.

If the dialog isn't hidden and something else is wrong, you shouldn't get the double arrow when performing the above key sequence.

In thtat case, have someone else log onto his system and see if they can duplicate the issue. This isolates if it's a "profile" issue or a "Computer" issue. If any user who's logged into that system can reproduce it, you should lilkkey repair/reinstall the software. If it's realted to just that user, you can delete the AutoCAD portion of their profile on disk and the registry (let me know if you need to do this and I'll get you the steps) and thte next time they startr AutoCAD, the secondary installer will kick in and rebuild the needed AutoCAD information in their profile. (this is assuming you're not using roaming profiles)

I'm also assuming you've tried different sheet sets and it's not isolated to this one sheet set.

looks like it was hidden off screen, we just went to dual montitors recently.  thanks for the tip on how to find it. once again I was over thinking it,  I was dreading a reload too.
seems like the layer dialog is affected too. they wont stay put he has to find them everytime. guess I'll dig in the registry to see what the issue is.
thanks

You can usually find more didalog locations in the registry although it can be a bit cryptic to find...it only typically shows up if they've been relocated from their default position.

You don't want to know how many hours I've wasted the first time I ran into this.

Video drivers can make a big difference on wether dialogs get pushed back to a single monitor or are remembered on a second monitor. You get a mixed bag...1/2 the time I want them remembered on the second monitor and they won't, then others remember when It shouldn't (like dropping back to a single monitor).
