I am trying to set up the Google Earth Extension in Autocad 2010. I downloaded the Google Earth Extension zip file, which contains an installer for Autocad 2010 as well as for older AutoCAD versions. At first the Google Earth toolbar would not show, apparently because Autocad could not write some file to C:\Program Files\Autocad 2010. I worked round this by starting Autocad with the 'Run as Administrator' option. The toolbar now appears but when I click on any command button on the toolbar I get an error message. For example, this is what I get if I click on the PUBLISHKML button:
Command: (arxload "AeccDWGToGE.arx")
; error: ARXLOAD failed
Command: _PublishKML Unknown command "PUBLISHKML". Press F1 for help.
I saw on the web that with AutoCAD 2009, one has to have installed the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable SP1 (x86). In case that was required for AutoCAD 2010 also, I installed it. Since my computer is 64 bit, I also installed the Microsoft Visual 2005 C++ Redistributable SP1 (x64), just in case. And for good measure, I also installed the x86 and x64 C++ 2008 redsirtibutables. It still doesn't work. Same error message.

The arx file is in C:\program files\autocad 2010, which is in the search path for support files.
If I try to load the file manually, I get:
AeccDWGToGE.arx is incompatible with this version of AutoCAD.
AcRxDynamicLinker failed to load 'C:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2010\AeccDWGToGE.arx'
C:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2010\acad.exeUnable to load AeccDWGToGE.arx file.
I believe I've discovered the answer. The Google Earth Extension does not work for 64 bit AutoCAD 2010. It will work on a 64 bit machine if 32 bit AutoCAD is installed on that machine. That is my understanding of the information I just found at

Make sure in you AutoCAD options that the path where the arx file it wants is in one of the support paths for AutoCAD to look in. AutoCAD needs to know where to look to load things. You can add that manually in the Options.
