Solidworks Default Templates

Hi,
We have two seats of solidworks 2009.  We are in the process of learning the software and could do with some clarity on an issue.
We had a third-party create 3 templates, that in hindsight are now no longer required.  We have tried deleting these unwanted templates from the shared Document Templates location (outside of Solidworks, via windows explorer).  However, whenever we restart Solidworks and go to create a new drawing (CTRL +N), the 3 templates are recreated in the Documents Templates folder.  Can this be explained, please?  What do we need to do to permanently remove these defunct templates?

Hi There

Could you check the following for me....

Go to the tools menu and select options.

COuld you check under default templates to see if the ones you want to delete are listed there?

Also under file locations can you check the path of you document templates folder (this should be you template share).

Hi Neil,
Sorry for the delay.  I will need to pass this on to the users for them to check as I am not a Solidworks user - only the IT Manager.  However, from my review yesterday prior to posting the question I did see that the files we are trying to delete ARE listed.  The default location IS the shared area.
I will await feed back from the user and then post his response.

I would think that is the templates are listed as the default then solidworks may well be recreating them to be helpfull.

The program defaults would be....

For Parts...

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Solidworks\Solidworks 2009\templates\part.prtdot

Nothing for assemblies.

And for Drawings....

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Solidworks\Solidworks 2009\templates\Drawing.prtdot

This may hopefully fix the problem.

Hi Neil,
Here is the response from the user:
"The items to be deleted are visible at Default Templates when you click the box Browse to select the default Parts (Assemblies, Drawings) template boxes.
The file location for the documents templates folder is S:\DRAWING OFFICE\SOLIDWORKS\DOCUMENT TEMPLATES (as listed in default templates Parts:  Assemblies:  Drawings:)

The user has tried to point to a different default(s), and then delete the unwanted copies.  However, when he re-opens Solidworks (after clicking 'Apply', etc, and closing soluidworks), the default files are once again within the document locations and the default settings have been reset back again.

I think the initial problem is more related to the user being new to the software and wishing his default would open rather than that generated by the system.  The fact that NeilParbrook's response highlighted the same system generated defaults, means that our installation is not corrupt, it just doesn't operate as the user would have liked.
