Asked by: LearningLearning

Hi

I have a normal image file which I need to convert to AI

Refer: http://tinyurl.com/37ug8u

The AI file is needed by printing company to print the logo in a 10 ft giant balloon.
Is this possible or should I hire a freelancer to do the job?
If I can do it myself, I hope step by step guides can be listed.
I have BASIC experiences using illustrator, photoshop...
Thanks

You won't get a very good automatic trace on an image so small, certainly not good enough for use on a 10ft print.  If you don't fancy doing it yourself you can get it done quickly and at very reasonable cost at http://www.vectorgraphic.co.uk/

If you have a larger version of the image you might be able to use www.whatthefont.com to identify the font used, but I think what you have there is too small

The best way to do it is bring it into photoshop first. Save the image as a tiff first.

Vectorization really only works for very contrast-y images with limited, non-gradated colors. Basically, illustrator (cs2 and cs3 ONLY) will group areas of similar color together and me them into vector shapes. So, the less colors the better, black and white (with very little gray) is the best.

After saving it as a tiff, import it into AI. With the image selected, choose OBJECT>LIVE TRACE>TRACING OPTIONS. this will let you refine the settings. After this, choose MAKE AND CONVERT TO LIVE PAINT from the same menu.

After that, choose OBJECT>LIVE PAINT>RELEASE.

You're eve better doing it through Adobe Streamline if you can find it. I don't think they make it anymore, and only for PCS. Its a very simple, effective program.

Flash is your third option. I forget exactly what its under, but it goes something like this:

Import the image to the stage, then from the dropdown menue (i'm foggy on which one) chose TRACE BITMAP, and enter the values that you wish. Then, save the file as an EPS.

Hope this helps!
