Well, it was even included in Ubuntu, but I got an error. I also Xara Extreme, but it needs Ghostwriter, so the install is a bit more complex

Hi,
It is easy to load the Image::Magick on perl. Just execute these commands on your system prompt:
# perl -MCPAN -e shell
perl > install Image::Magick
then lines of text will follow if it says it is installed there's no problem but if the build fails for some reason you mightlike to try to for the installation:
perl> force install Image::Magick
It should install. Please give it a try and tell me whathappens.

Xara Extreme is also in Ubuntu. The package is called xaralx. It recomends also installing xaralx-svg and imagemagick too.
To find it you will need to enable the 'multiverse' repository so go to System/Administration/Soft

You should look at Inkscape. It's capable of opening .AI files. I can't comment on its usability or features though.
