The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Adobe CS3 Bugs in Leopard 10.5

Asked by uzzidesign in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard)

This is an issue I have explored very deeply for months and have had no luck yet. Illustrator CS3 and Photoshop CS3 are extremely buggy in Leopard 10.5. These bugs were not fixed as it was hoped with either of the updates 10.5.1, or 10.5.2. I am currently running 10.5.2 which I installed with the downloaded combo updater, as some forums have suggested is more effective than the auto Software Update utility. Below I have listed my specific issues with Illustrator CS3:

I appear to have font problems that slow AI to a paralyzing halt anytime I use the Text tool. I get a spinning beach ball every time I try to select anything with the Text tool, or when I try to select any text with the Select tool. It usually takes a few minutes for the application to recover every time this happens.

I am using Font Agent Pro 3.0 to manage my fonts, of which I have about 2,000. Of course, they are not all active, I only have about 150 fonts active at startup. So far, the only temporary solution has been to deactivate ALL of my fonts except for my system fonts. It is NOT a corrupt font causing the problem. I have scanned my system a dozen times with many different apps and all my fonts are clean. The best solution so far has been to uninstall Font Agent Pro and use Font Book, since it's the only way I can use any non-System fonts without paralyzing AI. I have also attempted to Manage System Fonts thru FAP to see if that would help, but it did not.

These problems are also present, in varying forms, in Photoshop CS3 on Leopard. If you really want to tackle this, I suggest familiarizing yourself with the following forums which have exhausted this issue.
