depending on your level of comfort with illustrator i would look at something like this:

http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/object/3891220_jigsaws_and_jigsaw_puzzle_pieces.php?id=3891220

or this:
http://www.bigstockphoto.com/photo/view/342154

or any other stock photo depot out there....

and download the comp version with the watermark in place, use it as a template and redraw the pieces myself.

of course you can also pony up the $ and buy the artwork if your comfort level isn't that high.

depending on 'how' you implement is another story. you could simply put the jigsaw pattern on top and have it look like a puzzle already together, or you'll need to be more elaborate and create masks for each piece.

I've used a cool puzzle creator for CorelDraw but not for Illustrator.

There are Photoshop puzzle creators or plug ins for photoshop called Puzzle Pro:
http://3d2f.com/programs/7-241-av-bros-puzzle-pro-for-windows-download.shtml

also here: http://www.sharewareconnection.com/av-bros-puzzle-pro.htm

So, you might save an illustrator file as a .psd and try using this software.

Here is an action for photoshop (sorry not for illustrator)
http://www.liknes.no/Photoshop/specialfx3.htm

This guy explains how he made puzzle pieces: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Adobe-Photoshop-1028/Puzzle-overlay.htm
Unfortunately there is supposed to be a movie but it didn't work - it sounds tedious!

I wish there was an option for illustrator similar to the one I used in CorelDraw.  There is an option that I am kind of reluctant to suggest, but here goes.  This would still take less time to do than to draw puzzle shapes and try to break up the artwork in some way:

Download a trial of CorelDraw and get this plug in: http://www.oberonplace.com/products/jigsaw/

What you would do if you try to use CorelDraw is to Import your .ai files into CorelDraw.  Or save them as another file type, such as a .jpg and import those to create the puzzle shapes.

Then from CorelDraw, export the files as .ai files (I think this would work)

What I don't know for sure is if the add on will work for the trial version!
