It opens fine in Illustrator, except some of the fonts he sent cause errors.
my question is: how do i tell him to do the equivalent of CREATE OUTLINES to make the type into vectors so that it doesn't need the font files?
thanks

In CorelDraw, the way to make type into a graphic is called Convert to Curves.
Select the type, Go to the "Arrange" menu and select "Convert to Curves"
also the file could be exported as an illustrator file.
Hope this helps.
