The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Macromedia Shockwave 3D vs just a java 3D renderer

Asked by DJ_AM_Juicebox in Macromedia Flash, 3D Game Programming, WebApplications

Hi,

I'm debating whether or not to get director 11 to use its 3d library to create an avatar generator web application. Is director dead? I haven't seen much news about it, I only hear about flash, but flash doesn't seem to have native 3d, you can just write your own software renderer if you want.

I need something that will let me build primitive avatar models (they won't be high poly count) but I'd rather not have to deal with building models via raw matrices etc. I was hoping director 3d could help here - does it have some kind of modeling interface already built in?

Also, can you run director 3d in a 'batch mode'? So you have a 3d object file (a list of the vertices of my avatar for example) I execute director 3d passing in the file, and it can render out for me a static image of that 3d object file passed to it? I'm doubting it could do that...

Anyway, my other option is to just use a java based 3d engine and make the web app an applet. This is less appealing because I haven't found any java modeling studios that can be run in an applet. There are a lot of free renderers and it would be easy to write a little batch interface to render a passed in file automatically though which is good.

Any thoughts/suggestions?
