Need help with creating Logo in Freehand

Hi, I am producing a logo which is for print, stationary etc. I've done a low res version in Photoshop but I need to produce a high res one. I have Freehand so I was going to do it in this software. I'm not sure how I should set my document up. Once I've produced it how should I export it so that the printers will be happy? (Note: I haven't been told if they prefer a particular format at this time so please answer generally) At this stage I'm not setting up business cards, letterheads etc. I just want a good quality logo which I believe the printers will resize.
