Adobe Lightroom Web Gallery Flash Template - how do you increase 500 picture cap?

I'm using Adobe Lightroom 1.1. I'm giving the 'Web' function a go to create a Web based gallery. I want to create a big gallery with over 800 pictures (don't worry about bandwidth) using one of the flash templates.

I note that Adobe have applied a maximum limit of 500 pictures for these templates. I've looked all over the web, and can only see ways to alter the HTML / XML based templates to increase this number, but not the flash ones.

Can anyone recommend a method on how to edit the flash templates to increase this number well beyond 500?

Many thanks,

Here is what my friends at Photoshop user have to say:

Unfortunately there is not a simple straightforward way to work around that limitation. You'd have to really roll up your sleeves and get under the hood. I have not had time to go that far under the hood, so I can't speak from experience on how much work is involved.

Flash galleries can eat up quite a bit of disk space, and I suspect that might by behind the limitation. The cap was 250 in the Beta version.

I can point you to some resources if you want to head down the path to try and work around the cap:

You are not the first to ask, so here is a good place to start:

ASKER

Many thanks for your post D Brugge - I appreciate the input.

Unfortunately, the links you've mentioned I'd already come across googling. The problem is that galleryMaker.xml seems to only relate to the HTML (non-flash based lightroom) galleries. It's only when I create a custom one of those that I get a galleryMaker.xml file to alter, as I discovered before making this post.

If I create a custom template for my own flash gallery in Lightroom, however, it seems to create a single file accessible within the file system. The file has a .lrtemplate extension. Before posting here, I tried opening this up in Wordpad, and whilst some of the code is tangible and makes some sense, there is no 'max size' kind of field that I can find anywhere.

Interestingly, one of the links you gave me (the Adobe forums one) does explictly suggest that the galleryMaker.xml is applicable for Flash based galleries, but I just can't see it.

Who knows - I may be being complete dumb, and missing something. Any further input / correction is greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,

Bluemercury
Adding on - on repeating the process of adding in a customised HTML template in lightroom, this also just creates a new template with the .Irtemplate extension. I don't see galleryMaker.xml at all. Is it because I am simply editing Adobe templates, and these kind of customisations can only be done with third party created templates?

David - I'm most grateful for your reply, and your own conclusions. When you're struggling to find a way to do something, it is the most infuriating thing in the world when you can't get it to work. To have the affirmation from another pro that getting it to work is impossible at least stops trying in vain!

Many thanks for your input - I'm going to leave this question open for the next few days, just on the vain off chance that someone else has found a method. I know it's very unlikely, but you never know.

I will then reward you the points - you have utlimately answered the question - it can't be done by the looks of it!

Many thanks again,

Bluemercury

I think leaving this open is a good idea. I'm not the top guy on Lightroom templates since I haven't had occasion to use them yet.

Because this question is dated and has a fairly high response count, I think the chances of getting anyone else to look at is is not too good.

I suggest that you post a pointer in the Flash zone pointing back to this question and see if anyone there has a fresh outlook.

Many thanks for your input again D Brugge.

May I ask, what's the best way to create a pointer in the flash zone to this question? I think I've only ever opened questions with points on offer, but presumably I open a no point question, and just link it to here, or somehow create a replica of this question or alter the catergories it's in....

Sorry if that sounds a dense request!

Many thanks,

After further reasearch, I have concluded that what I wanted to do was indeed impossible. We'll just hope Adobe see the sense at some point, and remove the limitation!

Thanks again for your input D_Brugge - it was good to have confirmed what I was doing wasn't possible. Fortunately we don't have an major need for more than 500 pics in a flash gallery, most of the time.

Best wishes,
