Question

Croping

Asked by: Steve011

I have a photo that I scanned onto my computer. I crop it with an oval shape, but there is still white color around the oval that makes it a rectangle. All I want to do is make this photo an oval shape without the white stuff around around. How can I do this, thanks so much.

you can not make an oval picture is impossible what you can do is make the white part sow invisable then you can see what ever you have in the background
so cut out the oval from the image that you have
go file>new and set the bcakground to transparent
then paste the image into the new artwork
then go file> save as > then select PNG

if the image is already oval shaped select the white area with the magic wand tool ( hold down shift key to keep selecting) then go Select > Inverse or press Shift+Ctrl+I  then you should have marching ants  around your image copy that and follow the steps i said before

or you can use the oliptical marquee tool (hold down on the rectangular marquee tool for more options)- you can get it by free hand or you can control it
first place guides at the top most part of your picture and down the left-hand side (gudes can be accessed while rulesrs are activated - View > Rulers then click on the ruler and drag onto your picture)
where the guides cross is your start point with the oliptical marquee tool selected click on that intersection and drag till you have your image bordered by marching ants copy and follow the steps i said before

Ok, I know how to crop an oval now. I just need to know how to get rid of the white area around it that makes it into a box shape. When I open a new project I select transparent and I drag the oval picture to it, but when I save it, it still has the white area around it. If you want, I can email you the picture and you can try it. sm51811@yahoo.com    thanks

maybe I have to scan the picture on my comp as an oval?

by: DeijaPosted on 2005-03-07 at 15:03:44ID: 13481946

you have to save it as a "PNG format"  with the transparent background the picture will still be square BUT the white area will be transparent
it is always going to be a square picture the system can't reconise an circle or a oval shapped one
