Question

Saving layers as seperate files

I am using Photoshop CS and wish to automate a tedious operation.  If I have a document with multiple layers, can I save all the layers as seperate png files using some sort of automation or action?  I have not written many actions so go ahead and assume I am an idiot. Thanks for your consideration.

while without writing a custom script you cannot just export your layers as seperate png files fear not i have a great solution.

goto file....scripts.......export layers to files to be able to do this in jpg or other image formats. what i like to do when automating png exports with transperency is to go about creating various layer comps which i then can get a better honed in way of exporting just what i want to png. goto...window....and click on layer comps. when the layer comps comes on goto create new layer comp and check off all the options for visibility position etc. this is nice cause u can create various compositions and later export easily with a script to show your client, import to flash or another software program.

from here you can turn on a layer comp and goto file save for web. png 24, and turn on transperency and into flash with no background you go.

I really need a transparent format.  I tried the File>Scripts>export layers.  Very cool.  Can I then do a batch conversion?  I don't see an option to change the file type in File>Automate>batch.  Remember, I'm a Photoshop infant as far as automating things.

Try the following Steps:

1)Goto File>Scripts>Export layers to files
2)Select PSD file format
3)Press Run (Make sure that you first choose the Path)

4) now open all those Layer files

5)Create a new Action>Set F2 (or any other key) as Function Key
6)Click Record
7)Now Select the window
8)Goto File>Save As... > Select PNG file Format
9)Close the window
10)Press Stop in Action Pane

Now Keep Pressing the function key for other windows......

Hear is what I did last night--

Used pjs1234388's solution of File>scripts>export layers to files
Exported them as psd files to a seperate folder
Wrote an Action that trimed the transparent pixels and saved as png
Ran File>Automate>Batch using the new Action
BINGO!
