The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

"Disappearing" cursors in Photoshop CS2

Asked by Polemic in Adobe Photoshop

Tags: , , ,

Can anyone shed any light on why, on my newly installed version of Photoshop CS2, some of the cursors simply don't appear on screen when the cursor is positioned over an image I'm trying to edit? (When over the grey Photoshop work area they appear as a pointer... but as soon as they are over an image, nothing is visible).

If I have Preferences (Display and Cursors) set to "Standard" (i.e. the pictures which represent the tools) I can see:

- move tool
- spot healing brush tool & healing brush tool but NOT patch toolor red eye tool which are on the same pop-out.
- brush tool, pencil tool and color replacement tool
- clone stamp tool & pattern stamp tool
- art history brush tool & art history brush
- eraser tool and background eraser tool but NOT magic eraser tool, which are all on the same pop-out.
- blur, sharpen and smudge tools.
- dodge, burn and sponge tool.
- path selection and direct selection tools.
- add anchor point, delete anchor point and convert point tools, but NOT the pen tool or freeform pen tool, which are on the same pop-out.
- hand tool and zoom tool.

The other toolsnot mentioned here, such as crop, selection, paint bucket, slice etc are invisible. The functions of the tools still work - it's just that I can't see where I'm applying them!

If I set the Preference to anything other than "Standard" (i.e. Precise, Normal Brush Tip, Full Size Brush Tip) then at no point can the cursor be seen over an image, no matter what tool is in use.

I'm running it on a laptop with an LCD screen, 32 bit colour, 1024 x 768 resolution (which seems to be the highest it will do), using the graphics drivers that came with the laptop. It's an LG with 512Mb of 533MHz DDR RAM, and Intel GMA900 graphics.

I could try uninstalling and reinstalling I guess, but I'm trying to avoid having to do that!Start Free Trial
