Product Catalog Template

I'm hoping that folks in this topic will know where I could find a nice, professional-looking printable product catalog template.  I've looked out on Microsoft templates, but the content is average at best.

Is it possible to purchase a product catalog template in much the same way as u can purchase a web site template??

I would imagine you can purchase or possibly find a free product catalog template.  What program will you be using to make your catalog?

I see this is the Photoshop question category... I was just thinking that Photoshop wouldn't be the best choice for a multipage book like a catalog.  So, that is why I asked.

Well, I bet there won't be many catalog templates done in Word.  Word isn't usually used for sending a print job to a printing press.  So, are you going to be printing this on a laser printer?

Most catalogs are probably printed at a printshop on a printing press... though I suppose many are done with digital presses too.  Almost all the catalog work I know about is done in either QuarkExpress, InDesign, or Pagemaker.  I suppose you could use Microsoft Publisher (but if you do, there are things you need to know -- such as files aren't always compatible with different versions and if you are going to use a print shop, make sure they can use a Publisher file)

I would not be opposed to buying and learning QuarkExpress, InDesign, or PageMaker - provided there were templates that I could purchase.  Any clue if catalog templates are available for those products?

Yes there definitely are templates available for those three programs.  Currently QuarkExpress is still widely used but InDesign is gaining popularity.  PageMaker is probably not going to be around long, since Adobe sells it and InDesign.  (just my opinion)  So... I recommend InDesign.  But you will get just as many people recommending Quark.  You might even download a trial and use a template with it to see what you think.
