Actions to extract and save image files

Asked by ugeb in Adobe Photoshop

Hi,

I have a document 1800x1500 that is divided into 300x300 squares. In each square is a handwritten letter.

Ideally, I need to create an action that extracts each square and saves it in its own jpg file, each with a unique name.

What I have accomplished so far is:
I manually select a grid, run an action that copies that part of the image to another open document and saves that document as a jpg (always with the same name -- Letter.jpg).
Manually I have to rename Letter.jpg to something else.

this gets the job done, but the selecting and renaming part is cumbersome.  Is there a way to do all of this with one action?  I just want the files to be named sequentially -- they don't have to have the letter name (though that would be nice).

thanks!
Gene
