So if I do this , will it slow down the opening of the pictures or not?

by: SheharyaarSaahilPosted on 2008-07-27 at 22:28:17ID: 22100819

not the opening of the pictures....thumbnails of your pictures will be regenerated.....so if you are viewing them in thumbnail view, it will take some time to regenerate those thumbnails depending on the number of pictures you have in a folder.

by: nvslaterPosted on 2008-07-27 at 22:33:02ID: 22100827

I view the pictures in bridge, I dont think picture are viewable in the bridge.
what do suppose will happen if I delete thumbs?

by: SheharyaarSaahilPosted on 2008-07-27 at 22:35:57ID: 22100830

nothing....in Windows Explorer, there is a feature to view your pictures in thumbnails, when you choose this option, windows creates this thumbs.db file which stores the cache for these generated thumbnails.

once deleted, windows has to regenerate the thumbnails and another thumbs.db will be created, that's all :)

if you dont want to see it, make sure Hide Hidden Files and Hide Protected System Files are checked under Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>View

by: nvslaterPosted on 2008-07-27 at 22:37:57ID: 22100837

Are you saying that adobe bridge uses windows explorer?

by: SheharyaarSaahilPosted on 2008-07-27 at 22:39:35ID: 22100841

nopes, im not saying that
but perhaps, you viewed this folder in thumbnails view sometime before which created this thumbs.db file.

by: nvslaterPosted on 2008-07-27 at 22:43:48ID: 22100848

I am sorry , I don't get it.
I always use bridge to view thumbnails and have never seen this before.
I have deleted the thumbs db and restarted bridge , the thumbnails are there instanly and now there is no thumbs.db, is that ok?

by: nvslaterPosted on 2008-07-27 at 22:57:29ID: 22100885

So are you saying that some how I view this  folder with windows explorer?
Maybe I should award the points and not worry about it?

by: SheharyaarSaahilPosted on 2008-07-27 at 22:57:46ID: 22100886

yes its perfectly fine
thumbs.db must have been created when you viewed your pictures in explorer

by: SheharyaarSaahilPosted on 2008-07-27 at 22:59:39ID: 22100891

>> So are you saying that some how I view this  folder with windows explorer?
yes exactly! :)

>> not worry about it?
not at all......its a harmless system file....which should be hidden by default, may be Adobe bridge is showing you the hidden file or your Hide System Files option is disabled in windows explorer options.

by: dreamjayPosted on 2008-07-27 at 23:00:46ID: 22100901

as SheharyaarSaahil said, you might have opened windows explorer to reach a folder which has thumbnail mode on.

If you only use bridge then you can disable thumbnail catching by the control panel because Bridge can display thumbnails without windows thumbnail catching.
you can safely delete all thumbs.db files. and if you disable it from control panel, you can be sure that you wont see thumbs.db files again.
