Question

Editing PSD

Asked by: RAH104

Hello,

I need to edit parts of a PSD.  I know how to edit the text however I don't know how to save the particular layers as images.  I'm used to having a single PSD per image, not everything on the one PSD.  How do I do this in Adobe PhotoShop?

Thanks.

If I understand you correctly you want to save a layer as a separate PSD file.

To do this:
-Open a new file and drag the layer you want from the current file to the new one. The layer will be in both files.
-Save the new file.

I want to save a layer as an image.

by: D_BruggePosted on 2008-07-28 at 17:55:49ID: 22107989

Go to File>Scripts>Export Files To Layers...

There you have a choice of file formats and naming conventions for each file that will be generated by your layers.

If you only want to save ONE layer as a file (and ignore the others) simply turn off the viability of the other layers and save in the format that you want (except for gif which will still try to save multiple layers when the others are turned off)

I can't seem to get this done right.

All I want is the logo bit which reads Skinzee to say "Free Unlimited Web" and output to a PNG file 326x120.

Example:
http://rhsource.com/logo.png

Here is the PSD:
http://rhsource.com/Jet Black.psd

Thanks.

I'm not exactly sure what you wanted to do because I'm currently on a computer without PS.

now but it sounds like you just want to rip a image from a layer and save it on another file.

one way to do this, is select the layer where the image is on, Crtl-A to select all, Crtl-C to copy

then open a new image, usually photoshop makes a new image with dimensions as what u copied to clipboard.  Then just Crtl-V to paste the layer onto the new image, then save as whatever you want.

Now.. .if your image you want to rip out is a result of a few layers, then what u can do is save the file first as another copy.  Then merge the layers that results the image.  Then do the same select all, and copy process as mention above.  Then as long as you don't save the file with the merged layer. It won't overwrite the file saved on disk.

If you want to fit the text in the specific 326x120 size, its easier to create a new file.

Open Jet Black.psd

Skinzee logo is actually plain text with style applied.
Select the layer named skinzee in the layer palette (F7).  (its in the header folder)
Select the text tool (T) and take a note of the font used and its size.

Now you need to copy that style.
from the menu, go to
Layer > Layer style > copy layer style

now create transparent new page with 326x120 size.
Type the text 'Free Unlimited Web' with the same font used in Skinzee the logo. Set font color as white.

now from the menu do this,
Layer > Layer style > paste layer style

adjust font size to fit in the size.
save it as a png.

A slight modification to dreamjay's method.

Open a new file the way he says, return to the Jet Black file and locate the layer that Sinzee is on and drag that layer to your new file.  The type layer and effects will transfer over intact. No need to reproduce them.

then save the way he says above.

Having difficulty getting the size right.  If this is so easy why can't someone just edit it as described above and provide me with the PNG?

I have tried following the above comments without much luck.

I'm still not sure why you have difficulty getting the size right...

you said you wanted a 326 x 120 image right?
so.. then create a new image with the dimensions you want

then on the new canvas, copy the logo and text over

here's the trick... if the size of those aren't fitting in... select the layer with the image, crtl-T, this lets you change the size of the image and does all sorts of transformations to it.  While changing size hold shift to maintain aspect ratio

when your done save it as a PNG.. and your done
