Is there a way to save effects when you record an action? I just recorder my first action and it included a glass effect and a warp, but when I played it I got a message saying that those effects were not available. Is there a way to include things like that in an action?

I want to try your solution, but for some reason the record action button is greyed out. Do you have any idea what I might have done to disable it? How do I re-enable it.
Also what do you mean by "convert the image to a layer "? How do I do that?

make sure that you have not highlighted the "Default Actions" folder
just select any individual action from the list and this should enable the record action button

when you open a flattened image, you can see only one layer in the Layer palette, called Background
double click on it and it should give you the option of converting it to a standard layer.

PS should record effects without any issues. just make sure that you convert the image to a layer before applying the Wrap transform effect becuase it doesn't work on the flatten images.
Recording the actions by starting with converting the flatten image into a layer, then apply the glass effect and then the Wrap one. It should work fine this way for other images.
