Need to slightly edit an image

Dear fellow developers:

I have an image which has a region of white space to its left. I would like to move this white space to the right of the image instead. How do I do this? I know I can crop the image, but how do I add the white region to the right of the image? I also have other images where I would like to add a white region like this to add text beside the image. Is this done the same way? I have attached the image to this question to illustrate what I'm talking about.

I am new to photoshop so I do apologize to everyone for asking such a basic question.
