Question

New Install of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign CS4 Crash at Startup

Asked by: exalkonium

Hello again experts,

I just installed the Adobe CS4 Master Collection on my workstation at work running Windows 7 64-bit build 7100. The installation went perfectly, but I cannot seem to run Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign. The other programs seem to work work fine. The program will start, but as soon as all of the initialization is done and the application seems to be ready to use, it crashes. The only thing I get is "<Application Name Here> CS4 has stopped working." The window will close, and that is it. I have tried running the applications in Compatibility mode and as administrator to no avail. I am really at a loss on what I need to do next, as this totally disables me at work. Can anyone please help and give direction?

Thanks

Is the software 32-bit or 64-bit?

Have you tried checking your event logs for further data into the crash?

by: exalkoniumPosted on 2009-06-09 at 09:58:19ID: 24583147

I have tried running Photoshop in 64-bit and 32-bit, both crash. Illustrator and InDesign are 32-bit programs, and they crash as well. Dreamweaver and Flash, for example, are 32-bit, and they do not crash.

Can you tell me where these event log are located?

Looks like there might be an issue with the ScCore.dll file, have you attempted to uninstall/reboot/reinstall the software at all?

by: exalkoniumPosted on 2009-06-09 at 10:14:57ID: 24583316

No, I have rebooted several times, but not reinstall, just because it took so long the first time.

I get the same error for Photoshop on a 32bit Vista system, happened first time I noticed on a Tuesday. Did a complete uninstall, reboot, install - same issue. Still looking through the web, but haven't found anything yet. It's an ScCore.dll issue, but I can't find anything on how to fix it - as the re-install from a full removal didn't solve it.

Addendum - http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415408 - gave me a tip to rename the "ScriptingSupport.8li" in "\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins\Extensions" to something like "ScriptingSupport.8l1.old" or similar. And it now works ...

My system is running Windows XP x64 SP2 and I experienced the same problem. I believe the problem occurred after I changed my multi-monitor configuration, although that is not conclusive.

Drygn's solution resolved my issue as well, though Adobe Bridge also seems to be affected and the fix did not resolve that issue.

I tried a complete un-install and re-install but that did not resolve the issues. Evidently since I'd updated the Creative Suite, the uninstall program did not entirely removve old plug-ins and settings. Manual cleaning might be required.

I'll update as I learn more.

I was having the same problem on a Windows 7 64 bit computer with 4 monitors.  It seems that the cross talk between graphics cards is causing the problem.  When I scale my 4 monitor system down to a 2 monitor system (the 2 monitors are on the same graphics card not different) then the adobe products work but if I deviate and start using both graphics cards then the problem persists.

by: pumpkin87Posted on 2010-03-28 at 21:47:39ID: 28940007

three hoots and a toot for Drygn's solution.  I was running fine on 4 monitors - replaced one monitor with a bigger screen at different resolution, and in the hindsight  and context of the polireaus post, I can see that that was when the problem started. Interesting stuff.
