hit Ctrl+R to bring the ruler
right click on the vertical/horizontal ruler to set the unit
then drag and drop your mouse cursor from the vertical/horizontal ruler to the maine screen
it should create guides
after crating guides on the two points you can look at the ruler to calclulate the distance
by eye means: just bring the ruler on, and then calculate the approx distance between the two points just by looking at the ruler.

there are two ways i normally use
bring the Info palette first, then
1. use the Ruler tool and draw a line between your two points, this will give you the distance in the Info palette.
2. draw a rectengle between the two points, and then hit Ctrl+T, this will give you the dimension of the rectengle which is the distance between the points.
